Welcome to Worship!
We’re so glad you’ve joined us today. Whether you are worshiping here for the first time or have been part of our church family for years, it is a gift to gather together in the presence of God.
Today, as we continue our study in the life of David, we step into a chapter filled with conflict and betrayal. In 2 Samuel 15, David faces the heartbreaking rebellion of his own son, Absalom. Absalom’s self-confidence convinced him that seizing the throne was not only possible, but right. At the same time, David responds with a humble faith, entrusting the future of his kingdom to the Lord.
While there’s plenty of intrigue, this story ultimately points us to Jesus—the King we don’t deserve, but the King we need—who offers a kingdom that can never be removed or replaced.
As a Global Methodist congregation, we believe God calls His people to live out three key discipleship practices:
Worship Passionately: Even in betrayal and loss, we trust that God is still reigning and worthy of our worship.
Love Extravagantly: Where pride and rebellion divide, Christ calls us to extend grace and forgiveness.
Witness Boldly: In a world of false saviors and failing kingdoms, we declare the hope of Jesus—the true King.
Thank you for being here today. My prayer is that as we face the tension between our own self-confidence and the call to faith, we will be drawn to surrender more fully to Jesus, our rightful King. If you have questions about faith or would like to talk further, I’d love to hear from you. You can reach me at the church office at 410-639-2144, or send me an email at the address below.
In Christ,
Pastor Gary

David #28: When Confidence and Faith Collide
2 Samuel 15
How We Got Here:
Absalom’s Great Confidence:
Sin has a way of Convincing Us That Bad is Good
David’s Great Faith:
2 Samuel 15:24–26, 1 Samuel 4:3–4, 10–11, Isaiah 29:13, Matthew 6:10, Luke 22:42, James 4:7, 1 Peter 5:6
There’s a huge difference between Using God and Submitting to God
Bottom Line:
Jesus isn’t the King We Deserve, but He IS the King we Need
Daily Devotional Reading:
Wake-Up Call provides a daily encouragement to shake off the slumber of our busy lives and turn our eyes toward Jesus. Each morning our community gathers around a Scripture, a reflection, a prayer, and a few short questions, inviting us to reorient our lives around the love of Jesus who transforms our hearts, homes, churches, and cities.

This week's prayer focus:
Join us in focused and specific prayer for our church, our community, and our world. Be prepared to see God do great things as we collectively turn to Him in prayer.
Sunday – Our Worship God, teach us to submit rather than strive. Turn our hearts away from using You for our gain, and lead us to bow before Your will with joy. Luke 22:42
Monday – Our Growth God, root out pride in us. Where we are tempted to call bad “good,” open our eyes by Your Spirit and grow us in humility and obedience. Proverbs 14:12
Tuesday – Our Leaders God, raise up leaders in our homes, church, and nation who seek Your will above their own. Guard them from self-promotion and give them wisdom to walk humbly. Micah 6:8
Wednesday – Families God, heal the wounds of betrayal and brokenness within our families. Help us forgive, reconcile, and live under Your reign of love. Colossians 3:12–13
Thursday – Our Community God, in a world chasing false kings and empty promises, make us witnesses of the true King Jesus. Use us to point our neighbors to His unshakable kingdom. Hebrews 12:28
Friday – The Next Generation God, protect the hearts of our children and youth from the lure of self-promotion and pride. Give them confidence not in themselves, but in Christ their King. 1 Timothy 4:12
Saturday – The Nations God, show mercy to the nations of this world. Humble the proud, strengthen the weary, and bring people everywhere under the reign of Jesus, the King of kings. Philippians 2:9–11
