Welcome to Worship!

We’re so glad you’ve joined us today. Whether this is your first visit or you’ve been part of our church family for years, it’s a joy to gather and worship with you.

Today, in our study of the life of David, we step into one of the darkest and most painful chapters in his story. In 2 Samuel 13 & 14, we see the devastating fallout of sin — abuse, silence, anger, and revenge. It is a heartbreaking reminder that sin always sets off a chain reaction that spreads farther than we ever intend. Yet even in the midst of the muck and mire, there is hope. Only Jesus can stop the chain reaction of sin by changing our hearts.

As a Global Methodist congregation, we believe God calls His people to live out three key discipleship practices:

  • Worship Passionately: Worship is not just what we sing, but how we trust God’s presence even in life’s hardest places.

  • Love Extravagantly: Jesus restores worth to those who’ve been broken and calls us to extend His grace to others.

  • Witness Boldly: Our past may shape us, but in Christ it does not define us — and that’s a story worth sharing.

Thank you for being part of our worship today. My prayer is that as we face the hard truths of sin, we will also find deeper hope in the grace of Jesus — the only one who can break sin’s chains and make us new. If you have questions about faith or would like to talk more, I’d love to hear from you. You can reach me at the church office at 410-639-2144, or simply use the question cards provided in the pews.

In Christ,

Pastor Gary

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Benediction

Life is much more than an accident.  Wherever I go, I believe God needs me there.  Wherever I am, I trust God has put me there.  He has a purpose for me being there - Christ, alive in me, wants to do something through me, no matter where I am.  I believe this and go in His grace and His love and His power.

If you would like someone to pray with you, please come to the altar area after the service and one of our ministry leaders will meet you.

Message Notes

David #27: Sin’s Chain Reaction

2 Samuel 13-14

The Story

Amnon’s Desire → Deception → Rape (13:1–15)

Tamar’s Desolation (13:19–22)

Absalom’s Revenge (13:28–29)

Joab’s Scheme (14:1–24)

Absalom’s Manipulation (14:25–33)

Sin’s Chain Reaction

  • DESIRE twisted into deception and force.

  • GUILT hardened into bitterness and blame.

  • INJUISTICE boiled over into vengeance and bloodshed.

  • FAVORITISM muted David’s response.

  • TENSION morphed into scheming and control.

  • ESTRANGEMENT erupted into destructive acts.

Bottom Line:

“Sin leads us to ruin or redemption.”
