Welcome to worship.

We’re glad you’re here today.

As we gather today, we continue a journey through Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount—words that have shaped the faith and practice of the Church from the very beginning. These teachings are not abstract ideals or unreachable standards, but a gracious invitation into life in God’s Kingdom.

The Sermon on the Mount was especially important to the Methodist movement. John Wesley believed Jesus was describing what a life formed by grace actually looks like—not a checklist of religious behavior, but hearts being healed, desires being reshaped, and love flowing outward into everyday life. Jesus speaks to ordinary people and shows us how grace works in us so that love can be lived out through us.

As we walk through these words together, listen closely and allow them to examine, challenge, and encourage you. This is not a call to try harder or do better on your own strength. It is an invitation to trust the work God is already doing—shaping you inwardly and forming you into a disciple who reflects His love.

We’re grateful you are here to be part of this journey. Whether you’re new with us or have been part of this church family for years, we’d love to help you get connected. If you have questions or would like to learn more, you can reach the charge office at 410-639-2144, or use the question cards located in the pews.

May God meet you here today—working deeply within us, renewing our hope, and guiding us as we follow Jesus together.

In Christ,

Pastor Gary

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Benediction

Life is much more than an accident.  Wherever I go, I believe God needs me there.  Wherever I am, I trust God has put me there.  He has a purpose for me being there - Christ, alive in me, wants to do something through me, no matter where I am.  I believe this and go in His grace and His love and His power.

How Jesus Forms a Faithful Life

Matthew 5:8–12

From Divided H__________ to Pure H__________

Matt 5:8, Psalm 24:3–4, Matt 23:25–28

God’s work begins not with better behavior, but with an undivided heart fully surrendered to Him.

From Peace-K____________ to Peace-M____________

Matt 5:9, Rom 12:18, Eph 2:14–16, James 3:17–18

Following Jesus doesn’t mean avoiding conflict—it means working toward reconciliation shaped by His love.

From Human A____________ to Kingdom F____________

Matt 5:10–11, John 15:18–20, 2 Tim 3:12

When Christ rules the heart, faithfulness matters more than approval, even when it costs us.

From Temporary R____________ to Eternal R____________

Matt 5:12, Rom 8:17–18, 2 Cor 4:16–18

The blessing of God is not found in comfort, but in belonging to His unshakable kingdom.

Bottom Line:

Bottom Line:

Jesus didn’t die to make us nice—He died to make us new.

Closing Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I offer my heart to Your transforming grace. Cleanse what is divided within me, align my desires with Your kingdom, and give me courage to follow You faithfully. Make me a peacemaker shaped by Your love, willing to trust You even when obedience is costly, so that my life may reflect Your cross and Your hope to the world.

Amen.

This week's prayer focus:

Join us in focused and specific prayer for our church, our community, and our world. Be prepared to see God do great things as we collectively turn to Him in prayer.

Sunday – Our Poverty of Spirit:  Jesus, teach us to come before You with humble hearts. Strip away self-reliance and pride, and help us trust fully in Your grace, for Yours is the kingdom we need most.  Matthew 5:3

Monday – Our Mourning: Lord, give us hearts that grieve what grieves You. Let us mourn sin, brokenness, and loss with hope, trusting that You are near to comfort and restore. Matthew 5:4

Tuesday – Our Meekness: Gentle Savior, quiet our need to control and defend ourselves. Shape our strength by humility and trust, that we may walk faithfully under Your care. Matthew 5:5

Wednesday – Our Hunger: God of righteousness, awaken in us a deep hunger for what is right. Free us from lesser desires and fill us with Your truth, holiness, and transforming grace. Matthew 5:6

Thursday – Our Mercy: Merciful Father, soften our hearts toward others. Teach us patience, compassion, and forgiveness, so Your mercy may flow through us in word and deed. Matthew 5:7

Friday – Our Purity of Heart: Holy God, cleanse our hearts and align our desires with Yours. Remove divided loyalties, that we may see You clearly and walk faithfully in Your presence. Matthew 5:8

Saturday – Our Peacemaking and Faithfulness: Prince of Peace, make us peacemakers in a divided world. Give us courage to live faithfully, even when it costs us, trusting that Your kingdom will endure. Matthew 5:9–12
