Welcome to Worship!

Have you ever thought of yourself as a priest? Most of us probably haven't. When we hear that word, we picture someone wearing special robes, standing behind an altar, or leading a worship service. We certainly don't picture ourselves!

But in today's passage from 1 Peter 2:4–10, Peter tells ordinary followers of Jesus something extraordinary: “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God.”

For generations, only certain people could enter the most sacred places of the temple. But when Jesus died on the cross, the curtain separating the people from the Most Holy Place was torn in two. Through Jesus, the way into God's presence was opened.

And Peter tells us that we haven't simply been welcomed into God's presence. We've been given a place in His work.

That means ministry isn't just something pastors do. God has called every one of us to pray, encourage, serve, and share His goodness with the people around us.

As we continue our STAND FIRM series, we'll discover what it means to be part of God's royal priesthood—and how that changes the way we live every day.

All for Him!

Message Notes

Welcome to the Priesthood

1 Peter 2:4-10

Jesus Made THE WAY(1 Peter 2:4, 6–8)

Jesus is the Living Stone and the cornerstone of everything God is building.

God Made Us HIS PRIESTS (1 Peter 2:5, 9a)

Through Jesus, we become living stones, built together into God's spiritual house and holy priesthood.

We Have a JOB TO DO (1 Peter 2:5, 9–10)

God has given us a new identity so we can represent Him and make Him known.

As a Priest, You Can:

  1. Build Your Life ON JESUS

  2. Live Like Someone Who HAS ACCESS TO GOD

  3. Take Responsibility for the MINISTRY GOD HAS GIVEN YOU

Big Idea:

God didn't just give you access. He gave you an assignment.

Take it Home

Build Your Life on Jesus — 1 Peter 2:4–8 Jesus is the cornerstone of everything God is building. Our lives should be aligned with Him, not the other way around. Prayer: Father, show me where I am building my life around something other than Jesus. Help me trust Him and follow His ways. Amen.

Remember Where You Belong — 1 Peter 2:5 God hasn't called us to follow Jesus alone. We are living stones being built together into His Church. Prayer: Lord, thank You for making me part of Your family. Help me build relationships, encourage others, and find my place in what You are building. Amen.

Approach God with Confidence — 1 Peter 2:5, 9 Through Jesus, you are part of God's priesthood. You can approach Him directly in prayer and grow in His Word. Prayer: Father, thank You for welcoming me into Your presence. Help me seek You daily and grow in my relationship with You. Amen.

Take Your Place in Ministry — 1 Peter 2:5, 9 Ministry isn't just for pastors. God has called every believer to serve, pray, encourage, and care for others. Prayer: Lord, open my eyes to opportunities to serve. Give me courage to step forward instead of waiting for someone else. Amen.

Make Jesus Known — 1 Peter 2:9–10 God brought us out of darkness into His wonderful light. We have received mercy so we can share His goodness with others. Prayer: Father, help me live in a way that reflects Your grace. Give me opportunities to tell others what Jesus has done for me. Amen.
