Welcome to worship.

We’re glad you’re here today.

As we gather today, we continue a journey through Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount—words that have shaped the faith and practice of the Church from the very beginning. These teachings are not abstract ideals or unreachable standards, but a gracious invitation into life in God’s Kingdom.

The Sermon on the Mount was especially important to the Methodist movement. John Wesley believed Jesus was describing what a life formed by grace actually looks like—not a checklist of religious behavior, but hearts being healed, desires being reshaped, and love flowing outward into everyday life. Jesus speaks to ordinary people and shows us how grace works in us so that love can be lived out through us.

As we walk through these words together, listen closely and allow them to examine, challenge, and encourage you. This is not a call to try harder or do better on your own strength. It is an invitation to trust the work God is already doing—shaping you inwardly and forming you into a disciple who reflects His love.

We’re grateful you are here to be part of this journey. Whether you’re new with us or have been part of this church family for years, we’d love to help you get connected. If you have questions or would like to learn more, you can reach the charge office at 410-639-2144, or use the question cards located in the pews.

May God meet you here today—working deeply within us, renewing our hope, and guiding us as we follow Jesus together.

All for Him!

In Christ,

Pastor Gary

Benediction

Life is much more than an accident.  Wherever I go, I believe God needs me there.  Wherever I am, I trust God has put me there.  He has a purpose for me being there - Christ, alive in me, wants to do something through me, no matter where I am.  I believe this and go in His grace and His love and His power.

Sermon Outline

Reordering the Heart

Matthew 5:5-7

How Jesus Heals the Disordered Heart

Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Matthew 5:5–7

From Reacting to Resting

God doesn’t calm the storm by changing circumstances—He steadies the heart.

From False Hunger to True Desire

What you hunger for reveals who is ruling your heart.

From Hardened Hearts to Holy Love

Grace received always becomes mercy released.

Bottom Line:

Grace works in so love can flow out.

Closing Prayer:

Gracious God, I surrender to Your work within me. Quiet my reactions, reorder my desires, and awaken a true hunger for righteousness in me. Shape my heart by Your grace so mercy and love can freely flow through me and I can reflect Christ to others. Amen.
