Week 1: Laying the Foundation
At the beginning of the Vital Merger process, many foundational pieces need to be in place. This first week of prayer will focus on building a solid foundation.
“Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.”
Ephesians 6:10-12
2. Pray for an openness to God’s action through the Holy Spirit.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere —in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Nothing of any great substance can happen in the church without the power and movement of the Holy Spirit.
Invite the Holy Spirit’s action in the life of these churches.
Pray the people recognize and accept the guidance and work of the Holy Spirit.
Pray that the people of this new church would be effective witnesses in the mission field.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to soften the hearts of the people of your community to make them receptive to the Good News of Jesus and to increase the compassion and understanding of the churches to be invitational in ways that meet real needs.
