February 18th Worship Program

Welcome to Church!

As we gather for worship this weekend, I want to make sure you know how grateful we are that you have joined us.  It's a blessing to worship, pray, and serve alongside friends and neighbors.

Today we continue our slight detour in our study of the book of Acts. As we work our way through Stephen’s sermon from Acts 7 and we are taking a look back to the Old Testament character Moses to discover some very powerful Gospel lessons that can help us live faithful lives today.

After the service, take a few minutes to engage friends and neighbors in conversation, or spend some time in prayer. We hope you find our church and church family is not just a place of worship but a community of support and love.

If you have attended church before, you know every church is unique. A few of the things we hope you will notice about us are first, the priority we give to the Bible, not just in worship, but in all things related to God and our relationship with HIm; also, we are committed to being a blessing, as we seek to represent Christ to our community; and finally we depend on the Holy Spirit to guide and empower us to live our daily lives. We believe these are essential to our calling to be His church here in Rock Hall.

Thank you for being a part of our family today. My prayer is that our time together in worship would be a source of inspiration, reflection, and connection in your relationship with Jesus. If you have any questions or want to discuss your faith journey, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly. My office telephone is 410-639-2144, or send me an email.

Richest Blessings!

Benediction

Life is much more than an accident. Wherever I go, I believe God needs me there. Wherever I am, I trust God has put me there. He has a purpose for me being there -

Christ, alive in me, wants to do something through me, no matter where I am.

I believe this and go in His grace and His love and His power.

If you would like someone to pray with you, please come and meet one of our ministry leaders at the end of the service.

Message Notes

Acts 16: Good News from the Old Testament - Pt 3

Acts 7:17-29

Active Listening vs Selective Hearing

Moses heard and obeyed

  • ‌He understood God’s Plan

    • Acts 7:30-32

  • ‌He understood God’s Presence

    • Acts 7:33-34

  • ‌He understood God’s Provision

    • Acts 7:35-36

Israel made a different choice

  • God clearly communicated

    • Acts 7:37-38

  • ‌Israel refused to listen

    • Acts 7:39-41

  • ‌Israel had to face the consequences of their sin

    • Acts 7:42-43

‌Beware your tendency to compromise on God’s word

  • 1 John 4:1-6

Any voice that doesn't point you to Jesus

is not a voice you should follow.

Take it Home:

  • Read Exodus 13:21-22. How does this visible assurance of God’s leadership in the wilderness wanderings remind you of the way God objectively and personally leads us in the New Testament era?

  • Read Hebrews 4:14-16. What encourages you most about the truth this text is underscoring? What is at stake when we fail to remember it?

  • Read Psalm 119:33-40. What are some of the most identifiable and challenging aspects of these descriptions of God’s word and our relationship to it?

  • Read Jeremiah 2:10-19. What does this passage do to help you see the folly of the idolatry in your life? What modern idols seek to entice you to compromise your love and loyalty to Christ?

  • Read Ephesians 4:17-24. What are some of the subtle ways we can slouch back into the “futile thinking” and “callousness” of our former way of life? What specific steps can you take to ensure that you ardently “renew your mind” each day?
