December 17th Worship Program

Welcome to Church!

We're so glad to have you worship with us as we begin the season of Advent this weekend. As we gather, I want to make sure you know how grateful we are to have you worship with us. It's a blessing to explore the hope, joy, love, and peace of Advent alongside friends and neighbors.

This weekend, we continue our study of the early church in Acts as we consider Peter and John’s confident hope following their arrest for preaching Jesus.. It’s an inspiring and challenging story that has great applications for our lives today.

After the service, we will have a short information meeting, but before that starts, take a few minutes to engage friends and neighbors in conversation, or spend some time in prayer. We hope you find our church is not just a place of worship but a community of support and love.

Thank you for being a part of our family today. My prayer is that our time together in worship would be a source of inspiration, reflection, and connection in your relationship with Jesus. If you have any questions or want to discuss your faith journey, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly. My office telephone is 410-639-2144, or just use the question cards in each pew.

Richest Blessings!

Closing Worship Benediction

Life is much more than an accident. Wherever I go, I believe God needs me there. Wherever I am, I trust God has put me there. He has a purpose for me being there -

Christ, alive in me, wants to do something through me, no matter where I am.

I believe this and go in His grace and His love and His power.

If you would like someone to pray with you, please come and meet one of our ministry leaders at the end of the service.

Message Text

A Story About Money

(But not really about the money)

Acts 4:32-5:11

Acts 4:32–35

A Spirit-filled Church has great love for one another

John 13:34

Acts 4:36–37

A Spirit-filled Church loves the things of the world less.

Deuteronomy 15:11, 2 Corinthians 8:14–15, 1 Timothy 6:17–19

Acts 5:1–11

A Spirit-filled Church seeks authentic faith.

Bottom Line: Don’t give up what’s eternal for what’s temporary.

Take it Home:

  1. What is the difference between blaspheming (Matt. 12:31), lying to (Acts 5:4), grieving (Eph. 4:30), and quenching (1 Thess. 5:19) the Holy Spirit?

  2. What is the difference between economic equality and economic justice? Which does the Bible call Christians to pursue?

  3. How can we best help those who are in poverty within the church? For whom are we most morally responsible in regard to material provision?

  4. What is the proper motivation for giving to the church (2 Cor. 8:12; 9:7)? Do most people give with right motives? Have you ever given improperly?

  5. Why do you think the Lord judged Ananias and Sapphira so quickly, without giving them a chance to repent? Are you holding back anything from God?
