Welcome to worship.

Welcome to worship at Rock Hall Church and Wesley Chapel.

We live in a world that rarely lets us feel hunger. If we’re hungry, we grab a snack. If we’re bored, we scroll. If we’re restless, we distract ourselves. If we’re uncomfortable, we numb it.

And yet — underneath all the noise — many of us carry a deeper hunger. A hunger for peace. A hunger for clarity. A hunger for freedom from old patterns. A hunger for more of God.

In Matthew 6, Jesus speaks about fasting — not as a performance, not as a spiritual stunt, and not as a way to earn God’s approval — but as a quiet, hidden practice that shapes the heart.

Fasting doesn’t make you holy. But God uses it to make you hungry for holiness.

Today we’ll explore what fasting really is, why it matters, and how it can gently reawaken our desire for the things that truly satisfy. This isn’t about guilt or pressure. It’s about rediscovering spiritual hunger in a world that constantly feeds us everything but what our souls most need.

If you’re visiting with us today, we’re especially glad you’re here. No matter where you are in your journey — curious, committed, cautious, or coming back after a long time away — you are welcome here.

Let’s open our hearts together and ask God to make us hungry for more of Him.

All for Him!

Benediction

Life is much more than an accident.  Wherever I go, I believe God needs me there.  Wherever I am, I trust God has put me there.  He has a purpose for me being there - Christ, alive in me, wants to do something through me, no matter where I am.  I believe this and go in His grace and His love and His power.

Hungry for More

Matthew 6:16-18

“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."  Matt 6:16-18

.

Bottom Line:

Fasting doesn’t make you holy – but God uses it to make you hungry for holiness.

This week's prayer focus:

Join us in focused and specific prayer for our church, our community, and our world. Be prepared to see God do great things as we collectively turn to Him in prayer.

Sunday – Holy Hunger: Father, awaken in us a deeper hunger for You. Expose the comforts that dull our souls and stir in us a longing for righteousness that only Christ can satisfy.

Matt 5:6

Monday – F (Focus): Father, focus our hearts on You above every craving. When distractions pull at us, center our desires on Your presence and teach us to seek first Your kingdom.

Matt 6:33

Tuesday – A (Abstain): Lord, give us grace to abstain from what weakens our souls. As we release weaker comforts, increase our appetite for Your Word, Your Spirit, and Your will.

Matt 4:4

Wednesday – S (Seek): Lord Jesus, we seek You with undivided hearts. Meet us in secret prayer, deepen our repentance, and shape our hidden obedience into visible love.

Matt 6:18

Thursday – T (Trust): Father, when we feel empty or weak, teach us to trust You. Remind us that Your grace is sufficient and Your strength is made perfect in weakness.

2 Cor 12:9

Friday – True Repentance: Merciful Savior, let our fasting be more than outward restraint. Create in us clean hearts, renew right spirits within us, and turn our sorrow into lasting transformation.

Ps 51:10

Saturday – Lasting Holiness: Holy Spirit, form in us a steady hunger for holiness. As we gather to worship, make us a people who desire Christ above all and reflect His love in every place.

Heb 12:14
