“Only God can make right what sin made wrong.”
We’re so glad you’ve joined us for worship today.
We all know what it feels like when something’s off in a relationship—when words, actions, or choices leave a gap between us and someone we care about. Our first instinct is often to fix it, to make it right ourselves. But what about when the brokenness runs deeper—when the wrong isn’t just between us and others, but between us and God?
That’s what today’s passage is all about. In 2 Samuel 21, Israel faces a season of famine because of sin left unresolved. David tries to make it right, but soon discovers what we all eventually learn—some things are too broken for human hands to repair. True peace, true restoration, comes only when God provides atonement.
We live in a world full of people trying to make things right in their own strength—through success, effort, apology, or distraction. But the good news of the Gospel is that God Himself has already made a way. Through Jesus, our sin is not just covered—it’s forgiven. What we broke, He restored.
So as we worship today, remember: you don’t have to carry the weight of trying to make yourself right with God. You just have to receive the One who already has.
Welcome home. Let’s worship the God who makes wrong things right—and brings mercy after the famine.

Life is much more than an accident. Wherever I go, I believe God needs me there. Wherever I am, I trust God has put me there. He has a purpose for me being there - Christ, alive in me, wants to do something through me, no matter where I am. I believe this and go in His grace and His love and His power. | |

Message Notes
David #34: Making It Right
2 Samuel 21:1-14
Three Questions to Answer About Making It Right with God.
2 Samuel 21:1-2
When Sin Breaks Things, Seek the Lord’s Face
Romans 3:23, Isaiah 59:2, Psalm 32:3–5, Proverbs 28:13, 1 John 1:8–9, James 4:8, Hosea 10:12
➡ Atonement begins with recognizing that sin is real and that God takes it seriously.
Why does sin still matter?
We can’t make things right until we admit something’s wrong.
2 Samuel 21:3-9
When We Try to Make It Right Ourselves
Ephesians 2:8–9, Titus 3:5, Isaiah 64:6, Romans 5:6–8, Hebrews 9:22, 1 Peter 3:18, Galatians 2:16
➡ Our attempts to make things right on our own fall short; only God can provide true atonement.
Can’t I make things right on my own?
We can’t fix what only the cross can cover.
2 Samuel 21:10-14
When Mercy Finishes What Justice Started
Romans 5:9–11, Micah 7:18–19, Hebrews 10:10–14, 2 Cor 5:18–21, Ephesians 1:7, Colossians 1:19–22, Romans 8:1
➡ True atonement ends in restoration—God’s mercy follows when the wrong has been made right His way.
What happens when atonement is made?
When atonement is made, mercy rains down.
Bottom Line:
“Only God can make right what sin made wrong.
Take it Home:
Take some time this week to journal your answers to these common questions related to atonement… “Always be ready to answer everyone who asks you to explain about the hope you have.”
“Why do bad things happen — is it always because of sin?”
“Why does God care so much about sin or promises made long ago?”
“What does sin really do that makes atonement necessary?”
“Can’t God just overlook sin if He’s loving?”
“Can good deeds or suffering make up for my sins?”
“Why couldn’t David just pay them off or say sorry?”
“Isn’t it unfair for someone else to die for another’s sin?”
“Why is blood always part of atonement?”
“What happens after atonement—does God really forgive and restore?”
“Can mercy and justice exist together?”
“How do I know when it’s ‘made right’ with God?”
“Does God bring beauty from the horror of sin? If so, how.”

This week's prayer focus:
Join us in focused and specific prayer for our church, our community, and our world. Be prepared to see God do great things as we collectively turn to Him in prayer.
Sunday – Our Worship God, open our hearts to see how holy You are. Help us come honestly before You, not hiding our sin but trusting that Your mercy is greater than our guilt. Psalm 51:10
Monday – Our Growth God, teach us to take sin seriously. When conviction comes, help us turn to You quickly instead of trying to make things right on our own. 1 John 1:9
Tuesday – Our Leaders God, give our leaders wisdom to seek Your face first in every decision. Keep them from leaning on human solutions when what we need most is Your direction. Proverbs 3:5–6
Wednesday – Families God, remind our families that sin always hurts more than one person. Where there’s tension or misunderstanding, bring confession, forgiveness, and peace. Ephesians 4:32
Thursday – Our Community God, let our neighbors see that You are just and merciful. As we serve and speak, help us point people to the cross—where justice and mercy meet perfectly. Micah 6:8
Friday – The Next Generation God, help our children and youth know that Jesus died to make things right between us and You. Let them live with confidence that Your forgiveness is full and forever. Romans 5:8
Saturday – The Nations God, show the world that true peace only comes through Christ’s atonement. Heal lands divided by sin, and let Your mercy rain down on every nation. 2 Corinthians 5:19
