Love doesn’t always feel good—but it always does good.”
We’re so glad you’ve joined us for worship today.
If you’ve ever had a tough conversation with someone you care about, you already know—love isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes love means speaking truth, setting boundaries, or owning our part in a conflict. It’s not easy, but it’s good. Because real love doesn’t avoid hard things; it works through them with grace and gentleness.
Today, as we look at 2 Samuel 19–20, we’ll see how quickly conflict can divide God’s people—and how gentleness, unity, and wisdom can bring peace again. These moments in David’s story remind us that even when relationships get complicated, God’s way is still the best way.
Love calls us to step toward each other, not away. It invites honesty instead of harshness, reconciliation instead of resentment, and courage instead of comfort.
So whether you’re in a season of calm or conflict, I hope you’ll hear God’s gentle voice reminding you: “Love doesn’t always feel good—but it always does good.”
Welcome home. Let’s worship the One who loved us enough to tell us the truth—and to give His life to make peace with us.

Life is much more than an accident. Wherever I go, I believe God needs me there. Wherever I am, I trust God has put me there. He has a purpose for me being there - Christ, alive in me, wants to do something through me, no matter where I am. I believe this and go in His grace and His love and His power. | |

Message Notes
David #33: Making Peace in a World of Conflict
2 Samuel 19:9-43
3 Steps to Peace in Place of Conflict
Step 1: Be GENTLE
Gentle words disarm anger. God calls His people to peace-making, not point-scoring.
Step 2: Aim for UNITY
Unity isn’t about winning the argument—it’s about protecting the relationship.
Step 3: Work TOGETHER on the Real PROBLEM
Peacemaking means working together on the real problem—not fighting one another.
Bottom Line:
“Love doesn’t always feel good—but it always does good.”
Take it Home:
Read Proverbs 15:1–2, 4.
Think of a time this week when your words added fuel instead of peace.
What emotions were driving you in that moment?
What would a “gentle answer” have sounded like instead?
What practices can help you slow down and respond with calm strength the next time your emotions try to take control?
Read Matthew 18:15–17.
Jesus teaches us to deal with conflict directly, privately, and early.
When have you avoided a difficult conversation because you feared how it might go?
How might honest, one-on-one dialogue have led to understanding instead of resentment?
What step toward reconciliation do you sense God asking you to take this week?
Read Matthew 5:21–26.
In Joab’s story, anger led to murder. Jesus reminds us that contempt and name-calling are seeds from the same root.
When have you used sarcasm, labels, or spiritual superiority to distance yourself from someone who hurt you?
How can humility and confession reopen the door to unity?
If you need to make peace, what would “leaving your gift at the altar” look like in your life right now?
Read James 3:13–18.
The “wise woman” of Abel shows that wisdom is peaceable, gentle, and open to reason.
Remember a time when a calm, wise word defused a tense situation.
How does this kind of wisdom protect both truth and relationships?
In your current disagreement, what would it mean for you to work with the other person on the real problem rather than against them?
Daily Devotional Reading:
Wake-Up Call provides a daily encouragement to shake off the slumber of our busy lives and turn our eyes toward Jesus. Each morning our community gathers around a Scripture, a reflection, a prayer, and a few short questions, inviting us to reorient our lives around the love of Jesus who transforms our hearts, homes, churches, and cities.

This week's prayer focus:
Join us in focused and specific prayer for our church, our community, and our world. Be prepared to see God do great things as we collectively turn to Him in prayer.
Sunday – Our Worship God, remind us that love doesn’t always feel good, but it always does good. Even when the path is painful, help us see that Your love is still at work for our good. Psalm 46:10
Monday – Our Growth God, grow in us a faith that welcomes Your refining love. When You confront, correct, or stretch us, keep us from running away. Let discomfort become the soil where spiritual maturity grows. Rom 5:3–5
Tuesday – Our Leaders God, give our leaders the courage to speak truth in love and to lead with humility. When conflict arises, help them choose gentleness over defensiveness and unity over winning. Pro 15:1
Wednesday – Families God, teach our families that real love listens, forgives, and perseveres through hard moments. Protect homes from harsh words and cold silences. Help us model grace when we disagree. Co 3:12–14
Thursday – Our Community God, make our church a place where people see the beauty of loving well—even when it’s hard. Let our neighbors find in us a peace that doesn’t depend on comfort, but on Christ. Mat 5:9
Friday – The Next Generation God, help our children and youth see that Your kind of love is bold and brave. When they face rejection or conflict, give them hearts that choose kindness, courage, and forgiveness. 1 Tim 4:12
Saturday – The Nations God, move among the nations with the kind of love that confronts evil and heals wounds. Teach us that peace without truth cannot last. Let the world see the power of Your love in Christ. Isa 9:6–7
