May 30th Worship Program

This weekend we gather together as a community of churches in order to help Rock Hall Church launch into a year of celebrating their Bicentennial Birthday. In 1821, the group of Methodists in Rock Hall decided to build a church on what would become Main Street. For over 200 years, Rock Hall Church has served as a fixture in our community.

Today, we continue a new message series THE LIFE on Memorial Day weekend, remembering those brave ones who had what it took to sacrifice for others, and ask if we have what it takes today to sacrifice for those around us and those to come after us.

I pray that your participation in today's worship helps you move closer to Jesus and reveals more of his plan for your life.

Message Notes

Genesis #34: The Life - Having What It Takes

Genesis 39:1-23

What’s the point?

It’s not just difficulty, it’s difficulty without purpose. We can endure if we understand the purpose.

There IS purpose in difficulty.

Sanctification sometimes looks like failure.

Luke 22:61–62

Get Perspective: Don’t have to see it, but choose to believe it by faith.

Romans 8:28

You have what it takes.

Luke 22:31–32

This week's prayer focus:

  • Sunday - Our Mission: God, grant boldness and opportunities for us to share the Gospel with others. Ephesians 6:19

  • Monday - Our Church: God, help us be financially responsible and good stewards of the blessings You’ve provided. Malachi 3:10

  • Tuesday - Our Leadership: God, allow nothing to hinder our ministers and volunteers from Your calling on their lives. Nehemiah 6:3

  • Wednesday - Families: God, help us recognize the importance of first making disciples of Christ in our homes. Proverbs 22:6

  • Thursday - Our Community: God, we ask for your healing of the broken structures and systems in our community. 2 Chronicles 7:14

  • Friday - Children/Youth: God, help our young people humbly submit to and honor those in authority over them. Ephesians 6:1-3

  • Saturday - Adults: God cause our adults to humble themselves and seek Your face. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Merger Prayer Focus: Making New Disciples

The “Great Commission,” as it is called, sends Jesus’ disciples out into the world to make new disciples. We are to go into all the world, presenting the Good News message and inviting others to become disciples. A disciple is one who follows the teacher, learning from the teacher, and doing what the teacher instructs.

  1. Pray for new people. Matthew 28:19

  2. Pray for children. Matthew 19:14

  3. Pray for young families. Rom 10:14-15

  4. Pray for more diverse people. Revelation 7:9

  5. Pray that God would bring people from all directions. Luke 13:29

  6. Pray for unchurched people. Acts 1:8

  7. Pray for people to accept Christ as Savior. John 14:6

Take it Home:

Take some time and consider Joseph’s faith in God based on the events of this passage. How does Joseph respond to the difficult circumstances in his life? What has happened previously in his life to enable him to endure this way?

This text of scripture tells us again and again how God was "with" Joseph. Read Genesis 39:2-6 and Genesis 39:19-23. How are these passages similar? What is God trying to show us about the nature of his presence and his steadfast love?

How does this passage help us understand the resources God has given us to resist sin and potential temptation? Read passages like Romans 6:11-14 and 1 Corinthians 10:12-14.

What resources does God give followers of Jesus to resist sin?

Are there worldly consequences for resisting sin?

How does understanding this help motivate believers to resist sin and embrace those consequences?
