June 18th Worship Program

Welcome!!

I’m glad to have you join us. Today we continue a message series titled SOUL DETOX. Let me ask, what's chipping away at your soul? What's getting in the way of you becoming the person God created you to be? Over these 4 weeks we are going to explore how we can neutralize damaging influences and embrace clean living through a "Soul Detox."

This week, we look at things that lead to peaceful souls or burdened souls within us, things like obedience, indecision, regret, and loss.

Our church is a community of believers who come together to worship, pray, and learn from each other. We value the importance of family and strive to create an environment where individuals and families can grow closer to God and to each other.

At our church, we believe that everyone has the potential to impact the world. In our programs and ministries, we seek to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to make a difference in our communities and in the world.

So, if you are looking for a church home that seeks to make a positive impact in Rock Hall and the world, we invite you to join us. No matter who you are or where you come from, you are welcome here. We look forward to getting to know you and to growing in our faith together.

If you have any questions or want to discuss your faith journey, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly. My email is gary@yourrockhall.church and my office telephone is 410-639-2144.

Thank you again for joining us.

Pastor Gary

Benediction

Life is much more than an accident. Wherever I go, I believe God needs me there. Wherever I am, I trust God has put me there. He has a purpose for me being there -

Christ, alive in me, wants to do something through me, no matter where I am.

I believe this and go in His grace and His love and His power.

If you would like someone to pray with you, please come and meet one of our ministry leaders at the end of the service.

Message Notes

Soul Detox: Burdened

We aren’t a body with a soul, but a soul with a body.

Psalm 42:5

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me?

Where do we pick up all the burdens?

  • Our souls are burdened with hurts from our past.

I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. 20 I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me.Lamentations 3:19–20

  • Our souls are burdened by today’s troubles.

But now trouble comes to you, and you are discouraged; it strikes you, and you are dismayed. Job 4:5

  • Our souls are burdened with anxiety about the future.

He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. 34 “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,” he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.” Mark 14:33–34

Don’t have to live with a burdened soul!

Although the world is full of suffering, it’s also full of overcoming it. Helen Keller

Psalm 42:5

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.

Tell your soul to remember God’s past faithfulness

  • The thought of my suffering and homelessness is bitter beyond words. 20 I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss. 21 Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: 22 The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. 23 Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. Lamentations 3:19–23 NLT

Cry out to the Lord who is with you now

  • I pour out before him my complaint; before him I tell my trouble. ... 5 I cry to you, LORD; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” 6 Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me. Psalm 142:2, 5-6

  • “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28–30

  • No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:37–39

Trust in God’s promise for tomorrow.

  • Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. 9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:8–9

  • “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him. 8 With him is only the arm of flesh, but with us is the LORD our God to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people gained confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said. 2 Chronicles 32:7–8 NIV

Faithful in the past. Good in the present! With me in the future.

This week’s YouVersion Bible Reading Plan:

We are not a body with a soul. We are a soul with a body. While the world rightly teaches us to detox our bodies, sometimes we need to detox our soul. This 35-day plan will help you identify what's chipping away at your soul, and what's getting in the way of you becoming the person who God created you to be. You will learn from God's Word how you can neutralize these damaging influences and embrace clean living for your soul.
